In fact, nowadays the world of health enjoys
the huge contribution offered by the use of virtual reality
which most important advantage is the possibility of reducing
the existing gap between imagination and reality.
Our vision, according to the Berlin Declaration on Open Access
in the Sciences and Humanities, is to develop a global and
accessible representation of knowledge on virtual reality.
It’s allows the free distribution of VR in a open and
accessible way.
Despite the huge potential offered, the application
of VR to clinical psychology doesn’t enjoy a consolidated
success inside the scientific survey, above all for two classes
of reasons: the low level of spread of information about the
situation of the art of the investigation and its possible
future developments and the high costs of the software which
turn away even those who are interested in experimenting the
use of VR.
In this scenario, the VR therapy takes its
place and its aim is to promote the spread of VR in the health
world by overcoming the actual existing limits.
The project intends to work in a double direction:
to share the knowledge about applications of VR in therapy
and to spread freely virtual environments (VE), through specific
services.
In order to share knowledge:
– To create
a cultural background, accessible
to everyone who wants to approach VR, by increasing the spectrum
of available information and by pointing out the actual condition
of the art of the research.
– To encourage
free circulation of knowledge in this field by using the web
as a mean of communication,
either by helping the user to find the information he needs
in a simple and fast way, or by giving the chance of offering
personal contribution by playing an active role in the process
of knowledge circulation.
– To stimulate
cooperative interdisciplinary research, by
offering the chance to users from different disciplines of
collaborating with us in new research projects.
In order to spread the Virtual Environments:
– To promote
the sharing of those technological knowledge that make it
possible to use VR and improve the use of the instruments,
by making available four recently created virtual environments
(supermarket, plaza, subway, elevator) that the user can download
and the protocol of use needed to guide users in the applicative
experimentations.
– To increase
the visibility of the advantages of using VR in therapeutic
contexts, by giving the chance to a huge public
of consulting and downloading a big variety of reliable and
useful articles and books and by giving a list of links to
further web sites which can be interesting in the field of
application to therapy.
